One-third of the volume sees maturation in French oak barrels for ten months. Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet) and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that didn’t use white grapes. Tignanello is a milestone. It’s produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The 2017 vintage will be remembered for its unusual progression of the seasons. Intensely ruby red in color, Tignanello 2017 is remarkable on the nose for its complexity. Notes of ripe red fruits such as cherries preserved in spirits, sour cherries, raspberries and plums complement delicate spicy aromas of cloves and licorice; sweet balsamic notes of mint and chocolate complete its complex bouquet. On the palate it is rich, mouth-filling and vibrant with supple velvety tannins. Its lengthy finish and persistent aftertaste bring back aromatic notes perceived on the nose.

750 ml. Argiano Non Confunditur is a red blend with a decisive, full-bodied character, smooth tannins and a persistent finish. Relatively gentle Merlot bridges the earthiness of Sangiovese, the darker black currant flavors of Cabernet Sauvignon and the warm red berries of Syrah. The result is a wine with generous flavors of red berries, a background of earth and minerality, and the smooth tannins and elegant structure and finish to make this wine approachable young with the potential for moderate aging. Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Santa Barbara

Tasting notes - strawberries and blackberries aromas slowly rise out of the glass. Overtime, more of the anise and clove will mix with these other aromas. Currently, the wine is young with mouth filling intensity and suppleness. Complexity will increase as the wine ages, but this wine should stay “fresh” for 6 or 7 years. Production notes - Au Bon Climat has been making Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County grapes since 1982, 23 years before sideways. In the 1980s and 90s the product mix was at Au Bon Climat was 75% to 80% Chardonnay to 20% to 25% Pinot Noir. Chardonnay was king and people had not discovered the joys of Pinot Noir. All this began to change in the late 90s and now Au Bon Climat makes an equal amount of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Park place sommelier food pairing - this is a food wine. In its youth, match this wine with lamb or dried meats. After a few years, as the flavors coalesce, it will pair better with salmon or mild red sauce with pasta.

From 3 different blocks, 1 on the lake, 1 on the high hill, 1 close to the winery; all with southeast exposure on mostly moraine soils. Each block is harvested 3 separate times, according to when they are ripe, from the middle of September through the first week of October. These 9 lots are vinified separately. Carbonic maceration for 8 days, fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel. From each block, 2 harvested are aged in concrete, 1 in stainless steel, until they naturally finish the malolactic fermentation (around 9 months). Then the 3 harvested are blended, always in respect of the vintage provided by mother nature. A microfiltration is done before bottling. Alcohol 13%.
